Season Preview: Denver Nuggets

Who’s new :

Isaiah Thomas, Michael Porter Jr, and Jarred Vanderbilt

Who’s gone:

Darrell Arthur, Wilson Chandler, Kenneth Faried, Devin Harris, Isaiah Whitehead

What they did last year: 46-36

The Nuggets made a jump last year and almost made the playoffs, only missing it because they lost to the Timberwolves in a winner take all game in their last game of the season. Gary Harris, Jokic, and Jamal Murray solidified themselves as a solid young core who can put up a ton of points. Defense however, could be an issue.

Vegas Over/Under 45.5

How much do you like Will Barton? If you are betting the over, you better like him like I like tacos, which is a lot. They basically don’t have another three on the roster, unless you include the teenager who has had 2 back surgeries in the last year. Which is two more than you want a young player to have. Paul Millsap missed a bunch of time last year, but he is another year older. They lost key rotation players such as Devin Harris and Wilson Chandler, and those contributions will have to be picked up by other people Isaiah Thomas is looking like the backup pg, but he could cause locker room problems if he is unhappy. He isn’t exactly known as a quiet guy who lets things slide. But this team does have a ton of upside as well. Their core is young, and any of their young players could make a jump. Murray has shown flashes, and if he could put it together, they could take another jump up the standings if he pulls a Victor Oladipo and becomes an all-star guard out of nowhere. But I don’t see that happening this season. They don’t have the depth, the defense, and the playmaking on this team to be a top team. With the Lakers getting better and taking another playoff spot and with no clear drop-off from anyone else from last year, I am guessing they will take a step back this season (and I don’t mean from 3).

Prediction Under (42-42) and around the 9th or 10th spot in the West.
