On the other side of the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles basketball is the Clippers. They have often been the little brother of their Staples Center roommates but they have been better in recent years during the Paul-Griffin era. But with that time being over, the Clippers are at a bit of a crossroads. They still have some solid pieces that could get them to the Western Conference playoffs as a lower seed. However, they don’t have the star power that they used to have that could propel them to contention in the West. This offseason will be telling as to what the next three to five seasons may hold. If the Clippers want to go big, they could have the flexibility to land a big name guy. But, it is mostly out of their control as guys like DeAndre Jordan, Austin Rivers and Milos Teodosic would have to waive their player options and either come back on smaller deals or leave town entirely. I don’t really see that happening as all of those guys won’t get that salary elsewhere (especially in this market) but I suppose anything is possible. If Jordan were to decide to leave, look for Los Angeles to swing for a player like Paul George. But in all reality I expect almost all of the Clippers players from last year to be retained in some way, with the only questionable guy being Avery Bradley, as they give this group one more run in 2019. As the Clippers have done for most of their existence, look for them to do the opposite of the Lakers and stay under the radar this offseason.
